This week has been a very successful! I accomplished everything that was on my timeline. My timeline is really helping me make sure I am successfully completely the things that need to get done. I am glad I have it to help me through the process.
This week, I accomplished many things. I made another Knightly News announcement. It gave the dates of the Track meeting on February 4th, and the official first day of practice on February 15th. It informed people to be get prepared for the upcoming Track season! I also made an announcement in both the Middle School and High School Chapels for the upcoming season. It was a little nerve racking, but I’m glad I did it. I think it helped the students get excited and informed about the upcoming Track season.
I made track flyers earlier this week. I put them all around the school. Hopefully, it will catch the attention of many students. The Track sign-up sheet was put up yesterday!! Many students have already started to sign-up! I also talked to many of the Cross Country athletes. I wanted to gain their support and encouragement. I'm asked them to help me persuade and encourage other students to sign-up for Track. Now, I need to start preparing the Track meeting for next Friday.

On Your Mark...Get Set...Go!
Once again, plans have changed....thanks to the snowy weather! The Hero's 5K race idea has been destroyed. The race cost went up about $10 more than it was before, and I had an entire week off of school, therefore missing an entire week of spreading the word around about the race! It is because of this this I have decided to drop the Hero's 5k race plan. But luckily I have a lot of other potential ideas. A few of these ideas are...
This week I had two major meetings. One was with Mr. Tucker and one with Ms. Tewksbury. I now have Ms. Tewksbury full support, and she gave me the idea of potentially working with P.E classes at school. My meeting with Mr. Tucker was super successful too! We decided the first official practice date! It will be on February 15 after school. Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursday at 3:15 right after school, and should end around 4:00 or 4:15. A track meeting will be held on February 4th after school to give information about the team. (times/dates/medical forms/exc.) I also talked to Mr. Tucker about looking into finding a Track we can potentially practice at. He is going to speak to West View Elementary about borrowing their track once a week. (I would do it myself, but Mrs. Zion told me I should get an adult to find the practice location, because they will not take a High Schooler seriously). I will be making an announcement for the next two weeks at Chapel, for the upcoming Track season. I will also be making a weekly announcements about the Track team in the Knighlty News! The first one went out this week! Check it out! I also asked my Dad to donate money to the school for Track. This way we will having money to buy a discus and shot put to practice with!
Things are looking very good for my Senior Project. Everything is finally starting to fit together! :)
- get involved in Mrs. Rivers' running team for the lower school (I've spoken with her, and she is giving me a book to borrow about her running approach for the kids)
- Do some Track "funny games" during half time at basketball games to get people interested
- Get involved with the P.E program at school to get kids interested in running Track

A Whole New World
It’s a whole new world! The project timeline is complete, and along with it is a whole new project idea. I talked to Mrs. Zion, and we both agreed that the race at Oakbrook was too much for me to handle on my own. As much as I wanted to have the race, it was going to be to complicated, and pretty much impossible for me to plan. I had to let my dream of having and Oakbrook race go. But now, instead of having my own race at Oakbrook, I am encouraging the Oakbrook family to participate in other local 5K races! Specifically, I am encouraging the Oakbrook family to participate in a race at Furman called “A Hero’s 5K”.
The Hero's 5K race is at 9AM on October 5th, and the fee to enter is only $21.50. The race is in memory of SPC Geoffrey Whitsitt who died January 13, 2010 fighting for our country in Afghanistan. The 5k run/walk will honor all service men and women from the Upstate and beyond who have fought, lived and died for our country. The link to register for this race is at the bottom of this blog post.
The race is coming up in about a month, so I need to start advertising the event right now! Flyers are coming out next week around the school, so be on the look out! I am also announcing the race to Oakbrook through the Knightly News, and at Chapel next week. Hopefully the word will start to spread. I have a good feeling that Oakbrook will have a huge turnout at the race! I’ve already mentioned it to a few people, and they all seemed very interested in going. My goal is to also get people interested in track through The Hero’s 5K race. I know if people just give the running experience a try, they will really enjoy it.
